Sliding Table Saw
The ideal saw blade depends on the material and application. Two key factors in blade selection are tooth configuration and tooth count, also known as the Z value. TCG (Triple Chip Grind) is the most popular choice for its durability and smooth finish on composite materials and laminates. ATB (Alternate Top Bevel) is preferred for cleaner crosscuts in hardwood, and FTG (Flat Top Grind) performs well for ripping solid wood. Combination blades are also available for shops that frequently switch between substrates. As a general rule, higher tooth counts produce cleaner cuts: a solid wood ripping application typically calls for a Z40, while cutting two-sided melamine requires a Z72 or higher.
