Cope & Stick/ Style & Rail

Cope and stick, also known as style and rail, insert bits are used on CNC machines to produce the interlocking profiles required for frame-and-panel cabinet door construction. The cope cut shapes the ends of the rails to fit the profile of the stiles, while the stick cut runs the decorative profile and groove along the inside edge of the frame members. Insert bit designs use replaceable carbide tips rather than a solid carbide body, allowing worn inserts to be swapped quickly without changing the entire toolhead. This reduces tooling costs and downtime in high-volume cabinet door production environments where these profiles are run repeatedly.
